What is a University? This lecture will examine the role that universities have played, and continue to play, in the development of Western civilization. It will consider the tension between the pursuit of knowledge and the cultivation of wisdom, looking carefully at the role that these institutions play in the advancement of human flourishing.
About the speaker
Pano Kanelos is the founding president of The UATX, a brand new university in Austin, Texas. Pano was previously president of St. John’s College, Annapolis, and is a noted Shakespeare scholar, having been the founding director of the Interdisciplinary Shakespeare Studies Program at Loyola University Chicago.
